ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Training Programme

ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Training Programme on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Bangkok, Thailand

Date: 11-14 October 2016

The Training Programme is a continuation of the 1st and 2nd regional dialogues on the mainstreaming of the rights of persons with disabilities, which were held in December 2015 and June 2016 respectively. The Training Programme aims to create a better understanding on the rights of persons with disabilities and introduce a regional platform among stakeholders in ASEAN with a view to sharing experiences and practices on the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in the region. More than 50 participants from all ten ASEAN Member States were nominated by persons without disabilities to learn about disability rights in their various modules and perspectives. The Training Programme combined interactive and participatory lectures as well as discussions to promote experience-sharing. It covered pertinent topics including conceptual and regional frameworks on disability, friendly designs for persons with disabilities, and the roles of journalists, government officers, and policy makers in respect of the rights of persons with disabilities. The Training Programme also consisted of three sessions for sharing good practices, challenges, and opportunities on education, health, and employment policies.
