Conference: Inclusive Education for Students with Disabilities

Conference: Inclusive Education for Students with Disabilities: Implementation of Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Hong Kong

Date: 28 November 2009

This one-day conference was co-hosted by the Centre for Comparative and Public Law at the University of Hong Kong, the Special Education (Faculty of Education) at the University of Hong Kong, and the M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace at the University of Hawaii. The CRPD came into force in May 2008 and has applied to China (including Hong Kong) since August 2008. Article 24 provides for a right to education and requires States Parties to ensure inclusion in education at all levels. The Conference explored legal, policy, and educational issues related to the implementation of Article 24 at the domestic level. Speakers included the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, legal academics, education experts, and others involved in ensuring the right to inclusion for students with disabilities.
